Swim team competes in Cape Ann League Championship

The varsity swim and dive team was one of seven teams who competed in the league championship on Sunday, February 5. Many swimmers had personal bests for the season. The Cape Ann League Championship, CALS for short, is an opportunity for all teams to compete in one meet.
- Junior Alex Walder completes a dive in which he flips twice. Walder, who practices year round, qualified for the national dive meet before the school season began. Walder won his first in diving medal at CALS. Credit: Alyssa Shepard and Liz Warren for Manchester Essex Multimedia Online

- Senior Sal Lupo of Rockport swims the 200 meter IM, which includes 50 meters of butterfly, 50 meters of back, 50 meters of breast and 50 meters of freestyle. - Eighth grader Nathaniel Rautio swims the 200 freestyle. The 200 meter freestyle is one of the longest races of the day. It takes a lot of endurance in order to finish with a good time. Credit: Alyssa Shepard and Liz Warren for Manchester Essex Multimedia Online

- Juniors Alex Walder and Dustin Ferzacca of Manchester Essex and Graham Lott of Rockport show off their medals from the day’s event. Walder received third place in the 50 meter freestyle along with a first place medal for diving. Walder will be attending nationals for diving later this year. Ferzacca placed first in the 500 meter freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle. Lott placed second place in both the 500 meter freestyle and 100 meter breaststroke.
